You will need to bring
Regular checkups (ideally every six months) will help your teeth stay cleaner, last longer and can prevent painful problems from developing.
Ocean Dental will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, checking for signs of disease and other problems. Intra-oral photos will also be taken at this stage if needed, which can show you what is happening in your mouth. Our goal is to help you to maintain your good oral health and to prevent problems from becoming serious by identifying and treating them as soon as possible.
Your check up at Ocean Dental will be followed by a complete clean. In some cases where a long time has passed between dental visits, a special periodontal appointment may be needed to remove excess calculus. Using special instruments, your dentist will clean to remove built-up plaque and tartar that can cause gum disease, cavities, bad breath and other problems. Your dentist may also polish your teeth to prevent future plaque build-up.
What are Digital Radiographs
On your first dental visit our dentist will take digital radiographs (Xrays). Digital radiographs can diagnose problems otherwise unnoticed, such as damage to jawbones, impacted teeth, abscesses, cysts or tumours, and also decay between the teeth. Ocean Dental uses a digital radiograph machine which emits virtually no radiation – no more than you would receive from a day in the sun or a weekend watching TV. If you are pregnant, inform your dentist, as radiographs should only be taken in emergency situations.
How long should i go between visits
If your teeth and gums are in good condition, you probably won’t need to return for six months. If further treatment is required, for example to fill a cavity, remove a wisdom tooth, or repair a broken crown, you should make an appointment before leaving the office. Our friendly dentist is there to answer any clinical questions you may have regarding your treatment.
